Testing, Testing, Testing: Practice Makes Perfect

Taking tests can strike fear into the hearts of students who are not sure what to expect.  For those, and anyone else who needs to prepare for a standardized test, Tazewell County Public Library offers a practice test service.  It is free and accessible to anyone with Internet and a library card.

Learn-A-Test from Learning Express allows the user to practice taking a wide variety of tests and tutorials.  School-age students can explore math and reading skills improvement at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.  Tutorials and exercises are presented for algebra, geometry, data analysis, measurement, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing.

Advanced Placement qualification practice is available for biology, calculus, chemistry, English literature and composition, European history, U. S. government, and U. S. history.

Students ready for college preparation may practice ACT, PSAT and SAT tests.

Students interested in graduate school may practice the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT.

Those interested in careers in civil service, cosmetology, EMS, firefighting, law enforcement, the military, nursing, real estate, or teaching can test their knowledge here, too.

Adults who have not completed high school can practice the GED.

Those who seek U. S. citizenship or language proficiency may practice the citizenship test, including questions in history and civics, and the TOEFL.

These practice opportunities give the test taker a clear example of the knowledge required for each test, immediate scoring, explanations of answers, and individual analysis of results.

In addition to sample tests, Learn-A-Test includes electronic books about all the test categories.  Parent’s guides to first, second, and third grades, highstakes testing, homeschooling, and preparing for 4th and 8th grade tests are included.  Also available are books on workplace skills and career tools, as well as some titles in Spanish.

This is an excellent resource for students at all levels for college and career planning, for  adults who need to retrain for a career change, for recent immigrants who want to prepare for citizenship, and for teachers and counselors who prepare students for college and the workplace.

To access Learn-A-Test, go to Tazewell County Public Library’s website at www.tcplweb.org and click on Electronic Resources, scroll down to Learn-A-Test and click.  Learn-A-Test may be used at the library, at home, at school, or anywhere you have an Internet connection.  It’s free, and it’s fun.  For more information call 988.2541.
